Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)

Optical coherence tomography or OCT is a noninvasive imaging method that uses reflected light to create pictures of the back of your eye, including your retina and optic nerves. It is recommended especially when you are over a certain age and/or at risk of developing certain eye diseases.

Optical coherence tomography is used to diagnose and manage conditions that affect the eyes, such as:

Diabetes
Hypertension
Glaucoma
Macular degeneration
Macular hole
Multiple sclerosis
Retinal detachments

What to Expect During the Test?

There is no preparation required. You will sit down, rest your chin on a support attached to the machine, and the OCT machine will scan one eye at a time. Your eyes will focus on a target in the machine. The test will take only a couple of minutes and the image will be evaluated at the end. The newest scan will be compared to older scans, if available.

Detect health complications early.
