Common Causes Of Cataracts
A common cause of cataracts is aging, due to the degradation of proteins in the eye lens over time. However, other factors that may cause cataracts are: genetics, eye injuries, diabetes, excessive exposure to ultra violet radiation from the sun, high blood pressure, smoking, alcohol consumption, obesity, and certain medications (such as corticosteroids).
Signs And Symptoms Of Cataracts
Most cataracts develop slowly over time. Signs and symptoms are difficulty in reading, troubles with night vision, seeing halos around lights, blurry/hazy vision, double vision, sensitivity to light and glare, and reduced brightness of colors. Regular eye examinations are important to diagnose and to address the issue.
