Eye Infections

Eye infection is an eye disease caused by a bacterium, a virus or a fungus. These small organisms can enter your eyes in many different ways, including eye injuries. An infection can happen on your eyelid, conjunctiva, cornea or the external parts of your eye. Common eye infections include wearing contact lenses during sleep and poor hygiene in cleaning contact lenses.

Early signs and symptoms of an eye infections may include:

Burning sensation
Crusty eyelid
Eye pain
Feeling discomfort
Itching or irritation
Pink eye
Red eyes
Swelling
Tender eyelid

Later signs and symptoms of eye infections may include:

Blurred vision
Discharge (yellow, sticky pus) from your eyes
Eyelashes that stick together due to discharge
Fever
Sensitivity to light
