Glaucoma Monitoring

Glaucoma is a disease that damages your eye’s optic nerve. Our eyes have an internal fluid that feeds nutrients to the front part of the eye. The fluid leaves the eye through an area called the drainage angle. If the drainage angle is blocked, the extra fluid increases the pressure in the eye. This pressure will damage the optic nerve. If not monitored and/or treated in time, it could result in permanent vision loss and blindness.

Who is at Risk for Glaucoma?

Glaucoma cases can occur at any age and typically do not present with symptoms. Some people have a higher-than-normal risk of getting glaucoma. This includes people who:

are over age 40
have family members with glaucoma
are of African, Hispanic or Asian heritage
have high eye pressure
have had an eye injury
have corneas that are thin in the center
