High Blood Pressure Screening

Most of us are unaware that a comprehensive eye examination can tell us about our health. In fact, your eyes may actually be the first part of the body to show signs of high blood pressure.

How Is High Blood Pressure Detected At An Eye Examination?

This is done by viewing the inside of the eye with a slit lamp or taking a retinal photograph. Results of the disease would be evident when your eye’s arteries become stretched and damaged and/or have red areas, showing hemorrhaging in your eyes. High blood pressure can lead to a heart attack and other known risk factors in the onset and/or progression of other diseases. These include glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degermation. Generally, hypertension retinopathy is not noticed until it becomes too late.
